The Sundelles, Lights On @ Ken Club 07/27/07

I decided to head on over to the Ken Club on Friday. I got there around 10ish and I was surprised that the bands hadn't started. I wasn't too sure who was on first, so I hung out in the bar for the most part. Let's just say that by the time The Sundelles started playing, I was a little tipsy.

I didn't manage to head over to the other side because well, my seat was nice and comfy and the idea of walking, just wasn't sounding so good. But I was able to hear them and they sounded pretty good. They had my ears perked up, listening to them.

When Lights On took the stage, I grabbed my beer and headed over to the other side. Lights on were pretty good, but at times I thought they were too much. It seemed to crowdy and muddy in some areas. They had a decent crowd watching them and they were into the show. Granted it was 11 something when they come and people were there to drink and to listen. I took in half of their set and decided to call it a night. I really wanted to see The Swedish Models, but if I wanted to get home in a safe manner, I had to leave! haha

I'd see both bands again, The Sundelles over Lights On. And I can't wait to see The Swedish Models. Sigh. When?

Comic-Con moving to Las Vegas 2008?

edit**

Looks like my sources are wrong. And that Comic Con wil be staying in SD unti 2012. So then it was a rumor all along.
We'll see what happens.

It's what I'm hearing from several people. Word is that this will be the last year that Comic-Con will be in San Diego.

All days but Sunday are sold-out at the moment. It would make sense to move it to a bigger venue. Bigger Venue+ Las Vegas= $$$.

Del Mar Race Track Day 1

I finally got a chance to go the the track yesterday and boy do i love to gamble! You forget these things until you're thrown right back into it. It took me a couple of beers to remember the lingo when placing bets. I mean, how are you supposed to know in what order you say the horse number, the dollar amount, and what you're betting on? haha

I ended up losing money, even though I won a couple of races. I'm just not a big better. I need to go back and play some more.

The scene at the Race Track was something else. You wonder where these people come out from. I didn't have a camera, but I wish I did. There was this "lady" walking around with some bright pink, maybe fuschia slippers! I was like woah, talk about being comfortable. And then you have your normal, fake tits, fake tans, I'm looking for a man, girls and then the boys that are after these type of girls. It was an industry event, so you know there was a ton of drinking going on. The free buffet? Yeah, it sucked. By the time I got hungry, all that was left were hot dogs. I wanted a hamburger dammit!

I plan on going back for 4 O'Clock Friday's and to place some more bets. I have to come out even, right?

Fifty On Their Heels/The Corvinas @ Kadan 07 19 07

I would deem it a success.

The place was nicely crowded. I would say at least 60 people were there and some were coming in and out and plenty were drinking. I wonder how much more Kadan made last night in comparison to other Thursday nights. I'm sure they saw some sort of profit.

It's a small place, but very intimate. haha
The bands set-up near the DJ, who by the way was playing some pretty decent music. It made me want to dance several times and that was a big feat because I was absolutely dead tired and not in the best of moods.

Fifty On Their Heels went on stage first and it was a fun night. Junior was all over the place. He kept having mic problems. I mean, for some reason it just gravitated towards Junior and wanted to beat him. haha But the show went on with or without the mic's participation. There were some sound issues, but nothing that hampered the show and made me go "this sucks!" They played a new song, which I thought I heard before, but then I couldn't remember. But it was good. There are a bunch of elements to it, but it always goes back to the foundation.

I was excited to see The Corvinas, so I made myself stay instead of going home and going to bed. I was very happy I did. They were loud and they were fun. They reminded me a lot of a surfer band, garage style sort of feel. I couldn't really hear the vocals that well, don't know if that was the mic's fault, the singer's fault or just the acoustics in the place. I only had one beer and one shot, so I know I wasn't "impaired". :) But I still enjoyed them. For being a three-piece, they sure put out a lot of sound and energy.

I don't care what you say, I like them. hehe

Starts now and ends when the tickets are gone.

Go to ticketmaster.com.

PW: LIVENATION

They're playing with The Hives and Phantom Planet at Cox Arena. But they're advertising the Aztec Bowl as well, so um. yeah.

I'd go just to see The Hives. They're a lot of fun to see live.

GO SEE FIFTY ON THEIR HEELS & THE CORVINAS AT KADAN (30TH & ADAMS) TONIGHT! 9PM

Fifty On Their Heels - Kadan 07/19/07

It's on the corner of 30th and Adams.

Fifty is playing with The Corvinas and wtih Brownbird Rudy Relic.

9pm.

I'm not sure about a cover charge, but either way, it's well worth it. I haven't seen The Corvinas, so I'm really excited about it. I've heard a lot of good things said about them, so I want to experience it myself.

Smashing Pumpkins Opening Bands Announced

Word is that The Bravery will be touring with the Smashing Pumpkins from September 24th to October 9th and then the band Explosions in the Sky starting on October 11th until the end of the tour.

Kinda strange, don't you think? They're scheduled to play in San Diego on September 19th. Street Scene sounds a little more believeable.

In my opinion, that would suck - big time! I'm hearing that the Smashing Pumpkins are playing 3 hour sets and breaking out some of the oldies. I would rather see SP alone then at Street Scene. I'd be pretty bummed out.

Smashing Pumpkins Tickets...

So who else tried to buy tickets and noticed that they were not selling any? The whole AEG/Live Nation/Viejas Entertainment issue must have something to do with this.

They were advertising the tickets going on sale today at 10am for at least a week.

bummer.

Friday 07/13/07: What to do???

There is so much going on tonight that I don't even know how to chose.

Luckily, I have friends that have made it somewhat easy.

I'll be hitting up the Beauty Bar to check out Gabe Vega's birthday Bash featuring The Airborne Toxic Event and a DJ set. This is how I will start my evening and then I'm going to head over to the Tower Bar to catch some awesome bands - The Scene, Roses on her Grave, and Scarlet Symphony.

It should be good times all around. I hope to make it to both, you just never know. You start drinking and then how do you drive?

What's everyone else doing?

You can't go wrong with either or both choices. I suggest you check out SD Dialed In for a more comprehensive list of what's going on in San Diego this weekend. Rosie is always on top of it!

What does Morrissey think about Madonna?

As reported in www.radarmagazine.com:

An angry Morrissey reportedly slammed Madonna at his concert last night in Norfolk, Virginia: "I wouldn't be surprised if she [Madonna] made that African boy into a coat and wore him ... for 15 minutes, and then threw it away." He also told the crowd, "You haven't even heard what I'm gratified about yet. I'm very gratified to be so close to the international headquarters of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals."

Hehe. Morrissey cracks me up. I love it.

Junior Metro & DJ Sophie: Wheels of the Industry at Livewire 07/09/07

The music last night at Livewire was refreshing. It was new. It was dancy. It was/is what I needed.

DJ Sophie did a great job behind the tables and her selection of music flowed in a manner that made you want to dance and forget about any issues you may be having in your life. She played a lot of music from France (French post punk/new wave), which I hadn't really heard of, but glad I did. I'm a fan. Junior Metro mixed it up with some Dub, Reggae, and of course, Post Punk. He kept the crowd moving as well. It was all seemless and it just existed. It was mellow and it was perfect. But not too mellow where you felt you couldn't dance for a song or two.

I would love to see this happen again and at different venues. I think it's important to introduce people, including myself to all styles of music. It can only influence bands to create new styles and to mix them up to bring out different types of crowds. You want a mixed crowd. Isn't the point of playing to introduce people to your music and have them bring their friends who may not like your music, but since their friend does, why shouldn't they give it a try?

I'm all for another french post punk/new wave dance party! Let me know when.

CatDirt Sez has some other additional information that was pretty interesting to read - check it out!

Skull Cat Control at Beauty Bar! 07 07 07

Sophie, I hope you had a wonderful time last night! Happy Birthday - again!

Cat Dirt and Skull Control brought it last night. I really enjoyed myself and judging the crowd, everyone was having a blast.
It was non-stop music by the DJs, who in my opinion did a great job of keeping the mix exciting and happy. It made you want to dance and drink. The place was crowded, but comfortable. The bands played loudly and they sounded great. The cupcakes were absolutely delicious.

I had never seen The Vultures and I'm really happy I got to see them. Some of their songs reminded me of this band called "For Squirrels." They only put out one album during their career before they all perished in a bus accident during a tour, but they were great. They were high energy and interacted with the crowd and tried to get the crowd involved. I really liked how they fit the bill. They were similar enough to Fifty but different enough so that you wouldn't get bored knowing that this is what you'd be hearing for the rest of the night. I'd definitely go see them again and would recommend them to anyone.

Fifty on Their Heels came on and the place was excited. Many were there to see them and to dance. I heard a new song tonight that I hadn't heard before. I didn't catch the name, but it was dancy and catchy. I danced my way through their set which was fun and as far as I can tell, the guys felt great about it.

Skull Control finished off the night and had the dance floor packed and it never slowed down. After a major dance session with friends, I had to leave. I had an early call time!

I would deem this a most successful night.

Be sure to check out CatDirt Sez and SD Dialed In for their reviews and pictures!

update

Lot's of craziness has been going on.

I'll get back into the swing of things.

I just need a slight break to clear my head.
